There are very few smartphones available on the market that can promise a truly awesome gaming experience. The Razer Phone 2 seeks to change the minds of mobile gamers everywhere: paired with an unlocked system that is ripe for gaming.

Let’s go ahead and break down the Razer¬†Phone 2 into the most important categories.

Hopefully, our review will explain why this gaming phone is a top-tier gaming option.

Screen & Display

The Razer Phone 2 is being touted as the best gaming phone available: if this is the truth, it all starts with the screen.

As everyone knows, in order to really enjoy gaming on a smartphone, you need to have a great display. The Razer Phone 2 showcases a 5.7 inch 120Hz QHD UltraMotion screen with enhanced brightness.

The quick refresh rate allows for gamers to play with almost zero latency.

With that being said, the higher refresh rate DOES draw more power. As a result, the Razer Phone 2 offers three Hz options: 120Hz, 90Hz, and 60Hz.

The screen itself has a sharp display with a 1440×2560 resolution. Gamers can choose between Full HD and Wide Quad HD. This is a pretty screen, no doubt about it.

The Razer Phone 2 is more than just a gaming phone. This handy smartphone comes Netflix ready thanks to Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 and HDR viewing options. Thanks to a strong battery, you can binge your favorite shows without concern.

Internal Components

The best gaming phones rely on strong internal components. The Razer Phone 2 offers some serious power thanks to the beefy Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.

This powerful processor matches up neatly with the built-in 8GB of RAM. The Razer Phone 2 may not have the strongest chipset in the world, but it trails only a few competitors on the market. For sake of comparison, the Razer Phone 2 trails only Huawei and Apple when it comes to powerful chipsets.

Finally, the Razer Phone 2 has a neat vapor cooling setup. The vapor cooling feature prevents your phone from overheating during long gaming sessions.

As far as storage goes, the Razer Phone 2 is one of the heftiest options available. This phone comes with 64GB of internal storage as well as a microSD slot. Shoppers can and up to 2TB of storage via the microSD slot.

As far as storage is concerned, gamers will never run out of storage space. Additional onboard connections include Bluetooth 5.0 and a USB-C headphone adaptor.

Battery Life

For a gaming phone to truly be exceptional, it needs to have a strong battery.

The Razer Phone 2 is competitive with both the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and the Huawei Mate 20 thanks to its 4,000 maH battery.

Battery life for general use will be exceptional however during intense gaming sessions or long videos, higher brightness levels will correlate directly with a decrease in performance.

With that being said, the Razer Phone has a wireless charging set-up, a charging dock, and a battery-saving mode in order to maximize battery life.

Camera Quality

While gaming might be a priority, the Razer Phone 2 still needs a quality camera. The Razer Phone 2 features two cameras instead of the three-camera setups that are becoming the norm.

The phone features a wide-angle camera and a 2x telephoto camera. Both cameras feature 12 megapixels of strength with a 1.75 f-stop aperture lens.

As far as video recording goes, the Razer Phone 2 features 4K video support. Camera quality degrades pretty notably when the light drops, so you’ll have to stick to well-lit environments in order to maximize your photo options. Video quality remains consistent no matter when you use it.

Sound System

Gaming on a phone has always been a limited option due to how poor most smartphone sound systems are. Thankfully, the Razer Phone 2  features better speakers than most smartphones.

The front-facing Dolby Atoms speakers on the Razer Phone 2 are crisp, sharp, and well-rounded. Users can carefully tune the speakers to their own personal likeness by simply playing with a few toggles inside of the Dolby sound settings menu.
